AN AMERICAN RETAIL CHAIN THAT DOESNT SCREW OVER IT’S EMPLOYEES,… THIS HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE LIKE CALIFORNI,….. OHH.

This is Winco.

WinCo is an employee owned grocery chain which pays its 15,000 workers at least $11/hour, offers health and dental insurance-even for part-time staff, and invests 20% of an employee’s salary into a pension which has turned 400 cashiers and clerks into millionaires. They are Wal-Mart’s worst nightmare.

Michael Vegas posted this pic meme about WinCo today and I had to rehash it.

Now, To be fair, these Wincos are all in California and they only deal in food.  The economy is so inflated there the cost of living drives retail pretty hard. It is VERY simple to live and save on $15,000 a year in the midwest as long as you don’t thoughtlessly dispose of your income. The average apartment for a single here in madison is $650 after expenses and bills. Ad another room and you still average out under $900 a month but then if you have two working at minimum annual you actually have more money.  Not to mention enough to withstand a 1 to 2 child family. While I agree Walmart should pay and offer more, they don’t have to by law or by economic standards in most of the areas they operate in.

The main problem I see now (as a cabbie) is the number of people I take too and from the local walmart chains who are at or below the poverty line, have MORE than three kids and even when tax time or a loan extension come in they are blowing 25% to 40% of their income month to month at walmart on crap they do not need and can not afford. I hate to sound like an ass but poor people in this country spend just as thoughtlessly as the rich and it makes for a cushy establishment of idiocracy for retailers to operate carte blanche and pay what ever they want so long as customers and employees alike are too vapid and ignorant to know any better in what they buy or sell or how and where it comes from.
